The Koivukylä Sortti Mini Station will be closed on 15 February 2026
The Sortti Mini Station in Koivukylä, Vantaa, will be open for the last time on 15 February 2026, as HSY’s lease agreement will end at the end of March. After demolition, HSY will transfer the movable structures of the Sortti Mini Station to interim storage in the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre to wait for possible further use.
The Sortti Mini Station has operated in Koivukylä in connection with the Reuse Centre since November 2021. The idea has been to offer a service package based on cooperation between the Sortti Mini Station and the Reuse Centre, in which residents have been able to donate goods suitable for reuse to the Reuse Centre and waste for recycling to the Sortti Mini Station at the same time. The staff at the Reuse Centre have helped to assess whether the goods are waste or still usable. HSY has delivered the waste brought to Koivukylä to further processing, and the usable goods have ended up for reuse through the Reuse Centre.
"It is a pity that we have to stop the operations of the Sortti Mini Station in Koivukylä, as cooperation with the Reuse Centre has been smooth and the service package has received good feedback from customers. However, it is not possible to continue as the lease agreement is going to end. The area will not be left without any Sortti services, as the Ruskeasanta Sortti Station only a few kilometres away serves every day of the week," says Marjut Mäntynen, Operations Manager.
The structures will be transferred for further use
The structures of the Koivukylä Sortti Mini Station have been designed to be easy to move. After the station closes, the structures will be demolished and transferred to interim storage in the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre to wait for possible further use.
“We are looking for a new location for the Sortti Mini Station and hope that we can move the buildings to a new place as soon as possible,” says Mäntynen.
