Changes to waste bin emptyings and Sortti station opening hours in May

In May 2026, May Day falls on 1 May, Mother’s Day on 10 May and Ascension Day on 14 May.

Due to public holidays, the emptying of waste containers during the May Day week may take place one day earlier or later. Waste containers will not be emptied on May Day, 1 May. Mother’s Day does not affect waste collection services.

We will empty waste containers as usual on Ascension Day, 14 May. However, it is possible that the emptying of waste containers on Thursday and Friday will take place one day later due to the public holiday. Especially in the city centre of Helsinki, there are properties that cannot be accessed on weekends or public holidays. We hope that the caretakers of these properties will make sure that the gates of the property will be open on Ascension Day, 14 May, in the same way as on normal weekdays.
