Urban Woodshed project
The project developed new kinds of firewood storage and service solutions that promote the drying of firewood in urban detached housing areas. The new woodshed models were created through a design competition and cooperation with companies. The project also communicated information about the correct practices for storing and burning firewood.
The project resulted in the urban woodshed concept, a model of a good woodshed that is also well suited for modern detached housing areas in urban environments. Detached house residents can build their own urban woodshed entirely by themselves using the construction drawings.
In 2015–2017, the project received funding from the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and the EU’s European Regional Development Fund. The Urban Woodshed project was implemented by TTS Työtehoseura, HSY and Aalto University. Many companies and organisations in the sector, such as the Bioenergy Association of Finland and Motiva, were also involved as experts.
