Waste Information

An invasive species shall not be kept, bred, planted, sown or handled in another similar way that may allow it to be released into the environment (Act on Managing the Risks Caused by Alien Species, section 3).

In particular, the parts of the plant that can spread the invasive plant (such as seeds, roots, etc.) must be disposed of as invasive plant waste.

Place small amounts into the property's mixed waste container in a sealed plastic bag/garbage bag or into the biowaste container in a biodegradable bag.
Put large amounts of invasive plants in sealed garbage bags and place them on the Small mixed waste pallet at Sortti Stations. Please note that the stalks and rootstalks of Japanese roses do not need to be packed in garbage bags. The cut branches of Japanese roses (without the roots and rose hips) can also be sorted as brushwood waste. We charge the price of garden waste in accordance with the price list for invasive plants.

New! We will have a separate collection for invasive plants at the Kivikko Sortti Station in 2026. Do not put plastic or mixed waste into the collection, as we use the waste in biorecycling. For more information, see Sorting of invasive plants at Kivikko.

We accept volunteer cleanup skips and truck loads at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre (no need to pack). When dropping off the load, please state that the load contains invasive plants to be disposed of so that it can be directed to the right place. The reception is subject to a charge.

Small amounts of soil with plants will not cause harm.

Bring small loads of soil containing invasive plants to the Kivikko and Ämmässuo Sortti Stations for the price of aggregate.
We accept truckloads of soil containing invasive plants at the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre. The loads are processed separately and charged in accordance with HSY’s waste management price list.
