Urban Air Quality 2.0 Project

People in urban environments.

Urban Air Quality 2.0, a joint project between the University of Helsinki, Finnish Meteorological Institute and Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority HSY, continued the work of the HOPE Project and provided up-to-date air quality information to residents, authorities and businesses in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

The project’s objective was to establish a data platform that was based on air quality measurements and modelling and provided open access to air quality observations and results. The project will also developed mobile measurements and new air quality parameters to help assess the health-related impacts of atmospheric particulate matter.

The project aimed to make air quality data more understandable, usable and accessible. It also aimed to foster and increase interaction between researchers, residents, application developers and businesses and discover new uses for air quality data. The project will also continued the development of the previously launched GreenPaths application, a route planner for clean air.

The project was launched in 2022 and continued until the end of 2024.

The project was funded by the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation and was part of the 2021 Future Makers Funding Program.
