KALPA project

The KALPA project examined street dust sources, measures to reduce emissions and air quality impacts.

The KALPA project aim was to detect factors influencing emissions and concentrations, as well as the influence rates of different kinds of sources in various target streets. In addition, objectives included identifying the most effective emission reduction possibilities, documenting best practices, and promoting their implementation.

The KALPA project was divided into three stages: the first stage was implemented in 2015–2016, the second phase in 2017–2018, and the KALPA3 phase 2019–2020. The City of Kuopio joined the project with the third stage.

The project was carried out as joint research between various organisations. SYKE and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences were primarily responsible for carrying out the work. The research was funded by HSY and the cities of Helsinki, Vantaa and Kuopio, as well as by the North Savo ELY Centre, Savon Kuljetus, and MESTAR in the Kuopio area.
