The aim is to develop the administration of BDWSS and its network management through sharing of know-how and experiences. HSY will help BDWSS to develop, among other things, the management of water meters, the management of the network, non-revenue water (NRW) reduction as well as the overall management of the utility. In addition, the project aims to improve access to piped water for low-income families.

Well-functioning water service solutions through partnership activities

The aim is to develop the administration of BDWSS and its network management through sharing of know-how and experiences. HSY will help BDWSS to develop, among other things, the management of water meters, the management of the network, non-revenue water (NRW) reduction as well as the overall management of the utility. In addition, the project aims to improve access to piped water for low-income families.

The WOP programme, i.e., partnerships between different water and sanitation service providers, strengthens the provision of sustainable water services through mutual learning and sharing of information. Thanks to our expertise with regard to water, we can offer feasible solutions to our partners around the world.

The first year of the WOP project focused on creating relationships between stakeholders and the water utilities getting familiarised with each other’s operations, as well as collecting background information for project implementation through field visits and surveys.

During the second year, the project focused on developing the NRW management by applying a district metered area (DMA) concept, improvement of the possibility of low-income households to connect to the water supply network by developing a feasible financing model, and identification of gaps in the bill generation and revenue collection process. In addition, the management of the utility was strengthened by Field Level Leadership (FLL) training and face-to-face training of the General Manager of BDWSS, and by to interactive selection of key performance indicators for monitoring of the performance of the utility.

Experience from the introduced concepts will be collected and analysed in the third year, and they will be shared in reports and presentations among WOP partners and with other stakeholders.
