Remotely read water meters

We will switch to remote reading of water meters in the measurement of customers’ water consumption during the period 2026–2030. The remotely read water meter makes the monitoring and invoicing of water consumption easier and more up-to-date.

Remote reading brings the measurement of water consumption to the digital era

Until now, water meters have been used to measure water consumption, and the readings of these meters have been reported to HSY at least once a year. The remotely read water meter sends water consumption data to HSY automatically and securely, which means that you will no longer need to report water meter readings to us and you will receive a bill based on your actual water consumption. The previous estimated and adjustment bills will be a thing of the past.

In the future, remotely read water meters will also enable you to monitor your property’s water consumption and us to monitor water consumption almost in real time throughout our water supply network.

Remotely read water meters will be installed gradually

The installation of the remotely read meters will begin gradually in 2026:

  • In 2026–2027, the meters will be replaced for the largest water consumers, such as apartment buildings, terraced houses and industrial buildings.
  • In 2028–2030, the meters will be replaced for the smallest water consumers, such as detached and semi-detached houses.
  • Remotely read water meters will be installed in new buildings as of 2026, regardless of the property type and water consumption.

To prepare for the transition, we will install approximately 500 remotely read water meters at pre-selected sites during 2025.

We will inform you of a more detailed installation schedule later, but you can already read answers to the most frequently asked questions concerning remotely read water meters below.
