Instructions for the property's water and sewer designer

Designer, please read these instructions before submitting the property's water and sewage plans to HSY.

The connecting party is responsible for submitting the same versions of the property's water and sewage plans to HSY's work order and connection portal and to city's building control services. Plans have to match the implementation. HSY does not retrieve plans from the building control service's "Lupapiste" (online permit service). HSY is not responsible for the feasibility of the property’s water and sewer plans. HSY reviews that it is possible for the property to join HSY's network.

HSY's connection point statement is required for planning all projects that require a building permit.

The connection point statement shows which networks the property must connect to. If the property is not going to be connected to the water main, wastewater sewer or stormwater sewer (shown on the connection point statement), the customer can apply for an exemption from the obligation from the municipal environmental authority.

Water pipe connection

The lot water pipe is dimensioned by the HVAC designer. HSY makes the connection with a pipe size of 40, 63, 90, 110, 160, 200 or 225 millimeters. The lot water pipe must not be larger than HSY's water main. The possible heating cable must be installed outside the water pipe.

HSY supplies and installs the shut off-valve(s) of the lot water pipe both at the connection point and at the possible branch of the lot pipe.

Shared water pipe

It is possible to connect several properties to HSY's network with a shared water pipe. This requires a contract on shared pipes. The property's water and sewage layout plan must show which properties or buildings are using the shared water pipe.

The connection point is always pointed to HSY's water main, even if connected by a shared water pipe.

HSY carries out all water pipe branching until the main water meter. Note that this also includes branching on the lot area. The customer is responsible for branching after the main water meter. HSY installs shut-off valves next to the branching point, so that all water meters can be closed separately.

If different properties or buildings have main water meters in the same space, the lot water pipes need to be branched outside the building. Branching is not carried out inside the building.

Sewer connections

The property may have several wastewater and stormwater sewer connections. HSY makes the sewer connections with a pipe size of 110, 160, 200, 250 or 315 millimeters.

When connecting to a manhole, the lot sewer pipe must not be bigger than HSY's main sewer line. When connecting straight to the pipeline, the lot pipe must be two sizes smaller than HSY's main line. For example, a maximum of 200 mm lot sewer pipe can be connected to a 315 (300) mm main sewer with a pipe connection.

Pressure sewers cannot be directly connected to HSY's gravity sewers or manholes. The property must build an outlet well which is then connected to HSY's main line with a gravity sewer.

The layout plan must show if several properties have a shared sewer pipe.

Water meter

A separate connection and access agreement with a connection point statement (attached) is required for each main water meter. Usually, one connection point statement/main water meter is issued for one property (lot). The conditions for obtaining several connection statements/main water meters for the same property (lot) are listed in the instructions for the orderer of the connection point statement.

The customer's HVAC designer dimensions the water meter. HSY checks the meter size based on information provided in the equipment report (KVV-laitteistoselvitys). Available water meter sizes are DN20, 25, 40, 2x40, 3x40. Flanged meters (DN50, 80 or 100) can be installed in special locations (e.g. hospitals or sports halls). Several meters can be installed side by side. This enables continuous water use even during meter replacement or maintenance work.

The water meter must be placed in a space that is in accordance with the instructions. The water meter is installed directly in the plastic lot water pipe. Pressure valves etc. must be placed after the water meter. The water meter must be installed horizontally.
