We produce household water for Helsinki residents in both Vanhakaupunki and Pitkäkoski water treatment plants. The Pitkäkoski water treatment plant also provides water for Kauniainen, Vantaa and Espoo. In addition to this, a small part of Vantaa residents get their drinking water from Kuninkaanlähde ground water intake plant.
Your water comes from Päijänne
When you open your tap, the flowing water originates from Lake Päijänne. The raw water travels around 120 kilometres in a tunnel from Lake Päijänne to Helsinki. The water is treated at the water treatment plants in Pitkäkoski and Vanhakaupunki before it is released in to the pipes for the residents to use.
Pitkäkoski and Vanhakaupunki water treatment plants
We treat the raw water from Lake Päijänne into household water in the Pitkäkoski and Vanhakaupunki water treatment plants in Helsinki. The treatment process is similar in both plants.
Dämman water treatment plant
The operation of Dämman’s water treatment plant has been terminated in November 2016.
The Groundwater plant
We have one groundwater plant in use. The Kuninkaanlähde water intake plant is located in Tuusula, in the Huhtariihi area. Its distribution area mainly includes the districts of Korso, Vallinoja and Vierumäki in Vantaa.
