Drinking water quality

As part of the process to increase the capacity of the Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant, the activated carbon plant will be modernised in summer 2016. The modernisation process will begin on 6 June.  Read more about the capacity increase from our news items (only in Finnish).

Modernisation project is completed at the beginning of November. Read more about our bulletin "Vanhakaupunki activated carbon plant modernisation project nearly complete" dated 11 November 2016.

Water quality table, updated 16th January 2017 (only in Finnish)

Construction work carried out at the treatment plant will cause minor changes in the quality of water during the modernisation of the activated carbon plant. However, the quality of drinking water will fulfil the requirements and recommendations set out in the decree on drinking water (1352/2015). Read more about our bulletin dated 1 June 2016.

The change in the quality of water concerns areas to which water is supplied from the Vanhakaupunki water treatment plant. We supply water from the Vanhakaupunki treatment plant to Helsinki districts to the east of Vantaanjoki and Kulosaari bridge, and to Koskela, Kumpula and Toukola. In addition, water supplied from the Vanhakaupunki and Pitkäkoski water treatment plants is used in eastern parts of Helsinki, limiting to and including Munkkiniemi, Ruskeasuo, Pasila, Vallila and Hermanni. Water produced at both plants is also supplied to the eastern parts of Vantaa, limiting to and including Ylästö, Pakkala, Veromies and Helsinki Airport.

Once the modernisation process has been started, we will update the table of the quality of drinking water supplied from the plant every two weeks. The first table will be released in week 24 (starting on 13 June 2016).
