The Helsinki metropolitan area climate change adaptation strategy was prepared in close cooperation with the region’s cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen, regional authorities and other regional actors. The preparation started in 2009 with background studies which comprised of regional climate and sea level scenarios, modelling of river flood risks and a survey of climate change impacts in the area.
Helsinki Metropolitan Area Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (2012)
The strategy concentrates on the adaptation of the built and urban environment to the changing climate. In the strategy, strategic starting points and policies with which the metropolitan area prepares for the consequences of climate variation and change, are compiled. The vision of the strategy is climate proof city – the future is built now.
