Climate indicators

Greenhouse gas emissions in the Helsinki metropolitan area reflect the impact of the area’s activities on the climate, but they alone do not show the progress of climate efforts in the region. The climate indicators comprise about 50 key figures that provide a comprehensive overview of the development of the operating environment in the Helsinki metropolitan area, as well as of the amount of climate emissions and energy consumption in various sectors. The climate indicators were first compiled in 2011 and have since been updated every two years. The data is available as a time series mainly from 1990 onwards.

The most important key indicators that illustrate climate change mitigation in the Helsinki metropolitan area have been selected from all the indicatorstogether with the municipalities of the Helsinki metropolitan area and experts from HSL.
