Using the Petra service for a smaller carbon footprint

The Petra waste benchmarking system is a free service for comparing waste volumes generated by businesses and organisations in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The system helps in developing solid waste management for buildings and reducing the amount of waste created.

A greenhouse gas emissions calculator has been added to the Petra service as part of the Julia 2030 -project. This may be used to calculate the emissions caused by waste processing in a business and to compare this with the emissions of other businesses in the same industry. The findings may be used in enterprise environmental reporting. The Petra system is available only in Finnish.

New functions in the climate calculator for buildings

The Julia 2030 -project is developing and expanding the functions of the climate calculator introduced for buildings. The greenhouse gas emissions caused by waste will be calculated more precisely. As of 2010, users of the climate calculator may also monitor the costs of consuming electric power, heating and copier paper, and may compare the results for various years. The calculator is administered by WWF Finland through the foundation’s website, and is freely available for use.
