HSY's Waste Reception Stations
HSY receives waste in different parts of the metropolitan area and Kirkkonummi at various staffed waste reception stations, which are called Sortti stations, and at unstaffed collection points. These pages provide information concerning the addresses and opening hours, in addition to what types of waste are received at the different reception stations.

The Sortti Stations are open on weekdays
from 7 am to 9 pm. Saturdays and Sundays closed.
Small loads of recyclable, mixed and hazardous waste are received at the Kivikko, Konala and Ämmässuo stations.
The Munkinmäki Waste Station in Kirkkonummi is open on weekdays from 7 am to 9 pm. Saturdays and Sundays closed.
The stations practice self-service, in other words, the customers must unload their delivery vehicles and lift the waste into the respective collection containers by themselves.
Regional collection points provide separate containers for glass, for both coloured and clear glass, recyclable carton, batteries, paper and small-sized metal items. Some stations also have containers for clothes. In addition to the regional points, there are some individual collection points only for glass, small-sized metal items, cardboard and clothes. Collection vehicles tour around the metropolitan area during the springtime. These vehicles accept, free of charge, household-generated hazardous waste, electric and electronic junk, as well as metal scrap.
Pick-up Sortti is a collection service for larger waste items produced by households.
Containers for hazardous waste are located on the premises (e.g. in the yards) of service stations and stores and are accessible according to the opening hours of the premises. Household-generated hazardous waste may also be taken to the Sortti station or to the waste station of Munkinmäki free of charge.
The Sortti station at Kivikko (open weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm) receives hazardous waste generated by business enterprises.
The waste treatment centre of HSY comprises the only operating landfill in the metropolitan area.
Items which are still in usable condition are accepted by various flea markets and recycling centres. The Sortti stations at Konala and Kivikko also provide a container for the Reuse Centre of Helsinki Metropolitan Area Ltd.
