Regional and Environmental Information

HSY's Regional and environmental information produces reliable and accurate information in order to improve the urban environment. The tasks of the unit are air quality monitoring, strategy work on the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change and producing, delivering and improving the quality of regional information data.

HSY's Regional and environmental information works to mitigate climate change in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area within the framework of the joint regional climate strategy. HSY calculates greenhouse gas emissions yearly and takes part in a European Union project that produces comparable information on regional emissions and reduction targets. HSY produces a twice yearly review on the best examples of climate work done in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The unit also coordinates the regional mitigation strategy that will be released in 2011.

HSY's Regional and environmental information takes care of air quality assessments in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the regions of Uusimaa and Itä-Uusimaa. Real time air quality information is provided to the public on the Internet. In addition, information is transmitted daily via different media. We improve knowledge of air quality and its impacts in cooperation with research institutes. We enhance air pollution control in city planning.

HSY produces reports and spatial analyses for planning and development in the Helsinki Region. These studies cover housing, land reserves for building in city plans, the structure, location and trends in enterprises and their establishment, and commuting. The essential spatial data, metadata and digital maps are made available for planning and development via the web-based map interface of regional base register SePe, developed and  maintained by HSY. The spatial datasets, metadata and digital maps are also published once a year on CD (SeutuCD).
